Principal's Corner

Dear Parents and Community Members:

I am indeed honored to be the Principal of Ella Grant Elementary School. I feel truly blessed to be the instructional leader of such an awesome school community.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the Ella Grant Community. I have been dedicated to the Mobile County Public School System for over eighteen years. During this time, my experiences include teaching elementary school, serving as an Alabama Reading Initiative Reading Coach and Instructional Partner. I have also served as a Reading Renaissance and Classroom Management and Organizational trainer for our school system.. I was Assistant Principal of Elizabeth Fonde Elementary School. I am married and have three children.

The teachers, staff and I are will continue to strive to implement a common core curriculum that is rigorous, relevant and builds relationships to prepare our students to be world-class citizens ready to master the challenges of the 21st Century with a solid foundation created here at our school. As your principal, it is important that everyone who steps through our doors including staff, students, and parents are excited to be here! This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun and nurturing environment.

Each family in this community has its own particular interest. Each parent is the personal cheerleader for his or her child. Our area of unified common interest is the students of Ella Grant Elementary School. It is imperative that our community embraces the idea of doing whatever it takes to ensure the academic growth of our students. We are committed to working tirelessly to provide challenging educational opportunities for children each day. We need your help in order to be successful. Collaboration with your child's teacher is a main ingredient to a healthy and successful year. Open communication is vital to ensure a successful home-school partnership throughout the year. There are many ways in which you can participate in school. Volunteering to work in the classroom, chaperoning field trips or becoming a member of our PTA are just a few things that you can do to make a difference.

My decisions as principal of Grant Elementary School will be based on the best interest of your child and every student here. My priorities are all student centered and include increasing student achievement through increasing teacher quality and effectiveness in the classroom. Every student here deserves a student focused education.

In closing, when we ALL work together as a learning community and do things with our students' best interest as the focus, we will be a GREAT school! If I can ever be of assistance, please call or visit. It is with consistent, honest, and open communication that I can best serve our students. Thanks for the opportunity to serve our GREAT community and I look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,

Kimba A. Drakeford Ed.S
